The Two Oracle Heads
Mímir and Brazen Head
Both come to know, but Mímir lingers for counsel while the Brazen Head fires questions and leaves. One wants wisdom; the other wants the answer. Between them they cover the whole spectrum of asking.
Together
The Brazen Head gets the facts and Mímir helps decide what to do with them.
Friction
Mímir's 'how are you?' is a real question. The Brazen Head assumes it is small talk and skips it.
The myths agree
The zodiac's two oracle heads. Odin consults Mímir's preserved head for secrets (Ynglinga saga, ch. 4); medieval legend gave Gerbert of Aurillac a head that answered yes or no (William of Malmesbury, Gesta Regum Anglorum), and Robert Greene's brazen head speaks 'Time is', 'Time was', 'Time is past' (Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay).
