Minos's Island
Talos and Daidalon
The Talos verifies the work; the Daidalon verifies the facts. Both distrust a confident answer, but the Talos patrols one domain while the Daidalon roams across many. They are the two people you want on any project where being wrong is expensive.
Together
Nothing gets past them: the Daidalon checks the sources and the Talos checks the output.
Friction
The Daidalon wanders off to research a fascinating tangent. The Talos wants everyone back on patrol.
The myths agree
Both belong to Minos's Crete, where Daedalus built for the king and Talos guarded the shore. Stranger still, Daedalus had a nephew called Talos, a gifted young inventor whom he killed out of jealousy (Diodorus Siculus 4.76; Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 3.15.8).
